SIOUX FALLS, August 17, 2012 – South Dakota’s 1,000+ capacity feedlots reported 190,000 cattle on feed for the slaughter market on August 1, according to the South Dakota office of USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service. This is down 5,000 head from a year earlier and down 20,000 head from a month earlier.
Placements during July totaled 20,000 head, down 2,000 head from last year and down 8,000 head from June 2012.
Marketings of fed cattle during July totaled 39,000 head, up 4,000 head from last year but down 8,000 head from June 2012.
Other disappearance during July totaled 1,000 head, down 1,000 head from last year but unchanged from June 2012.
